When a manufacturer starts running out of room, the equipment usually gets there first. That was the case for Tool-N-Die Inc. in Wayland, Michigan, where growing machining operations meant the company needed more space, and needed it built around how the shop already ran.
FCC Construction partnered with Tool-N-Die on a 9,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building addition to the company's existing manufacturing facility. The expansion added manufacturing space and made room for a new 10-ton overhead crane, giving Tool-N-Die the lifting capacity to support heavier machining work.
A Design-Build Approach

That meant close coordination with Dixon Architecture, Exxel Engineering, and Teton Designs from the start, so design decisions accounted for how the addition would tie into the existing building and how construction would proceed on site.
