Project: Freshwater Research and Innovation Center

Location: Traverse City, MI

Square Footage: 40,000SF

Project Information: FCC Construction provided structural steel detailing and fabrication for the Freshwater Research and Innovation Center, a 40,000-square-foot, three-story facility in Traverse City, Michigan, built to advance freshwater research, education, and collaboration along the shores of Grand Traverse Bay.

FCC self-performed detailing and fabrication for 227 tons of structural steel, along with fabrication and installation of select miscellaneous steel components. The project included architecturally driven steel elements such as decorative braces and perforated stair risers, which required careful detailing and precision fabrication. The site sat along a busy main roadway, and material deliveries required thoughtful planning to keep the project on schedule.

FCC delivered the structural steel package on time, helping keep the project moving forward while meeting the quality expectations of a highly visible public facility. The project reflects FCC's ability to provide comprehensive steel solutions, from in-house detailing through fabrication and installation, for architecturally complex work.
